TAMING THE JUNGLE
22 January 2021 | Singapore is a jungle. It’s a very well manicured jungle but it’s a jungle. And the Singapore government has an army of workers whose sole job is to tame the jungle. And tame it, they do!
When you see them cut back some of the plants and trees around here you wonder if anything will ever grow back. They seem to hack it (literally) within an inch of its life. However, because of the rain and heat and humidity, everything grows back very quickly.
It’s fun to watch the gardeners cutting things back. It’s especially interesting to see how they use weed whackers to cut grass. Very rarely will you ever see a lawnmower of any type out here.
What’s also simply remarkable is the variety of trees and plants that you experience on a day-to-day basis. The plants are beautiful and exotic and colourful. The entire country is like a mini botanic gardens. And to top it all off, some of the plants are just plain strange and weird. It’s hard to explain any of this in written word. You have to see it to believe it. Ah, the jungle... you’ve gotta love it!
